About
Located in the state-of-art Center for the Arts on the Valparaiso University campus, the Brauer Museum of Art is home to a nationally recognized collection of 19th, 20th, and 21st century American art and international religious art. The museum's permanent collection, numbering more than 4,000 pieces, includes works by such internationally recognized artists as Frederic Edwin Church, Asher B. Durand, Childe Hassam, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Ed Paschke. The museum as well features works and exhibitions by artists of national, regional, and even local importance. The Brauer's landmark 2006 exhibition of the art of Indiana Dunes painter Frank V. Dudley, for example, endures as a definitive treatment of this legendary figure. The Brauer Museum of Art also houses the largest known collection of works by Junius R. Sloan (1827-1900), a Hudson River School painter who lived and worked in the Midwest. As well as displaying selections from its permanent collection, the Brauer Museum hosts a full schedule of special exhibitions and events for display in its seven galleries.
