About
During the spring and summer, Indiana Dunes National Park's shoreline near Central Avenue is a great place to watch bank swallows flying to and from their nest burrows in the dunes. Spring and fall offer great shorebird and waterfowl viewing. Just past the gate on the entrance road, you'll see a buried forest, created when wind-blown sands inundated the trees. Nearby, you can access the northeast end of the Calumet Bike Trail. This 9.1-mile gravel trail passes flower-filled fields, marshes, and woodlands. Lifeguards are not provided at Central Avenue Beach.
